Decorated Website The primary output of TreeDec is a set of new files comprising the updated website, decorated with navigation aids to allow users to go to nearby pages. These aids are inserted into every page specified in the tree file. They are organized as a table with up to three lines, corresponding to the three types of links provided:
  • An ancestor path, which shows the context of the current page
  • Siblings, which show related pages
  • Immediate children which show details of the current page.
Here is an example of a navigational table:

Table of Contents The table of contents is an HTML skeleton written to td-toc.html. It essentially replicates the td-tree.dat file in HTML: the titles are made into anchors, and indentation is done with nested lists. The file will usually require some further editing before being used as part of the website. Here is an unedited example. Note that the generated links in this file are relative URLs.
Message file TreeDec writes informational and error messages to STDOUT and to a message file, conventionally named td-msg.txt. TreeDec keeps an error count, which is used in conjunction with the rewrite_option.
