Running VisVIP in the
Windows Environment

Windows
Registry

VisVIP uses two Windows registry string values 'Browser' and 'Site' under the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\NIST\VisVip\1.0 to control the web browser used and the initial site loaded. The value of 'Browser' is the full pathname of the browser executable, e.g., C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplorer.exe. If 'Browser' does not exist, the user's default browser is used. The value of 'Site' is the site name only. E.g., if your data is in C:\Program Files\VisVip\data\mystuff, then the value of 'Site' should be 'mystuff'. If 'Site' does not exist, the value of the environment variable VisVIP_WEBSITE is used if it exists, otherwise the 'works' site is loaded.

Execute

VisVIP can be executed, like any other Windows program, from the Start menu. The menu item can be copied to the desktop to create an icon that will start up VisVIP. The Windows version of VisVIP supports the same command line options as the Unix version. These options can be added to the 'Target' field in the 'Properties' of the VisVIP icon. E.g., to view large site maps more quickly without the node labels, change the 'Target' to:
   "C:\Program Files\VisVip\visvip.exe" -nolabel
