Tour of subject interface

Some of the key features of the WebCAT subject interface are demonstrated in the following short tour. Only a single type of experiment is shown by this link; just remember that if you use WebCAT to create sorting exercises, you will be able to add a variety of features, including subject naming of categories, specifying the number of categories that appear, enabling subjects to create new bins as needed, and customizing your instructions to the subjects. Click here to start the tour.

  1. Follow the instructions that are displayed at the top of the screen.
  2. Notice that dragging an item from the list to a category bin changes the color of the bin to blue. Also note the highlighting of the item as it is dragged.
  3. Move an item from one bin to another. Note that the color of the bins dynamically updates so that empty bins are white and bins with items are blue.
  4. Try to move an item from a bin back to the list. Note that it doesn't work.
  5. Try to position an item outside a bin. Note that upon releasing the mouse button in a disallowed region that the item springs back to its original position.
  6. Press the 'Done' button before you have moved all the items. Note the popup error message. There are other types of error checking that are delivered as needed to the popup window.
  7. Finish dragging items to bins. Note that the item list changes to white to indicate that it is empty.
  8. Enter your name or a nickname, type a comment, and press 'Done'.
  9. The message that you see upon successful completion of a sorting exercise can be customized with you company's logo or your favorite wording.
