Paying for College
Introduction

Ah, college. The all-nighters. The finals. The frat parties. The anxieties, the wild abandon, the intellectual gymnastics. The chilly autumn afternoons of football, the steaming raucous field houses jammed with sweating underclass bodies in the dead of winter. The soaring hopes of meeting Mr. Right -- the crashing disappointment when you chance upon him necking with that short-haired girl from Ohio in the bird sanctuary.

Few things in life scare us, excite us, and shape our lives as much as the choice of what we do after we finish high school... unless of course we become safari scouts, ivory poachers, or astronauts. Hey, we Fools have been there (to college, that is, not to Kenya). And now we're here to help you get through it, too.

Whether you've just had your first munchkin and want to know how to invest for her future, you're a senior in high school and your folks haven't saved a dime, or you're 45 and think it's time you finally finished your degree -- we've got some Foolish wisdom for you.

Some of us are fresh out of Harvard. Some are fresh out of carrots but are planning to go to the supermarket sometime this weekend. Some did the community college gig. Some never even started school until after our kids were grown -- and by then, of course, we got lots of strange looks from the other kindergartners. But one thing on which we can all agree is that there are two things on which we all agree: learning is one of our great loves, and it's never too early to start planning for it or too late to start doing it.

In this collection of 13 articles representing our thoughts on whether a private school education is worth it, you'll learn how to find those off-the-wall scholarships no one knows about as well as strategies for how to pay in-state tuition at a state-sponsored university when you've never even set foot in that state. In short, we have ideas on how to make the most of your education and your education dollars.

If you have any questions about saving money for education, or if you have some Foolish tips of your own, join us on the Going to College message board. Foolish students, both potential and kinetic, await your experience!
