It started with a mouse and became a $23 billion entertainment empire. Disney (NYSE: DIS) has grown since the days when Mickey Mouse was whistling "Turkey in the Straw" as Steamboat Willie. While its strength still lies in the core leisure sectors of animation and theme parks that were carved out during Walt's tenure, the company is now a major player in broadcast and online content with its acquisition of Capital Cities/ABC and majority stake in Go.com (NYSE: GO). While earnings slipped to $1.4 billion last year the company is already making difficult restructuring decisions and has found new life from unlikely sources. ABC has been revitalized with the whirlwind success of Who Wants to be a Millionaire. The theme parks are enjoying record attendance in a booming economy. The animated works are becoming prized DVD home acquisitions. Has the mouse finally landed the better mousetrap?
