• WebVIP: Visual Instrumentation Program

  • WebVIP is a tool that can be used to conduct traditional user testing on a given set of tasks, but faster, remotely, and with automated instrumentation. WebVIP allows the usability engineer to quickly instrument a Web site for user testing. Instrumentation is accomplished by automatically copying a Web site to a test directory, parsing the HTML and adding code to capture time stamps and link identifiers (essentially recording a user’s path). During the next step, checkbox designators are added to every link and the Web site pages are presented to the usability engineer for further instrumenting/annotating. Finally, WebVIP processes these instructions and creates an instrumented set of Web pages that either be presented to the user locally or remotely for usability testing.
